Essential Everyday Reduced Sodium Pickles

So any time I find a low sodium pickle option, I do a little victory cheer. I recently came across the Essential Everyday brand reduced sodium pickles. They are Kosher dill pickle spears which I found at a local grocer, Cub Foods.

My Review of Essential Everyday Reduced Sodium Pickles
So the first point I need to make is that these pickles are reduced sodium due to the fact that they substitute potassium chloride for salt. That puts these pickles off the list for those of us with high blood pressure, heart, liver, or kidney issues. The Potassium Chloride interferes with many of the medications we take.
There are many of you that don’t need to watch the potassium chloride, so let’s continue. These pickles still are sour enough, yet there is a slight metallic flavor in the brine. I would attribute that to the potassium chloride, as it tastes very metallic to me. At only 100 mg per spear, these pickles would due if they were your only option. I need to avoid these in the future. If you try these, let me know your thoughts in the comments below! Also, let me know what low sodium pickles you have found out there!

Rick’s Picks Low Sodium Classic Dill spears are 75 mg sodium per ounce. They do not have potassium chloride. However, they do have calcium chloride, I have seen them at Sprouts and Whole Foods. They don’t taste metallic to me. Highly recommend them.
I have tried this. I like them as they still have the snap of a good pickle. I’ve also tried vlasic and wasn’t a fan. They had an extremely weird taste to me.
Also, Mclaurens pickles are 75 and also hot and spicy and can be ordered online or found at Whole Foods. I also make my own which if you ate the whole 32 oz jar, it would be 500 mg so far less than even 75 mg
Thanks for the review. I appreciate the information. My complaint with many of the so-called lower sodium pickles is the deceptive serving size If you look carefully at the nutritional label, it’s 100 mg sodium per 3/4 (three-fourths) of a spear. Now, really! Who eats 3/4 of a pickle spear? So, to keep with the 100 mg, you’d have to cut 1/4 of the spear off each time you ate a pickle. I’ve seen this with other low sodium pickles too. That’s one of the reasons I prefer Healthy Heart Market pickles. They’re completely sodium free, so no weighing of portions or cutting off pieces of pickles required.
