Great Tasting Sodium Free Barbecue Sauce
I’m back again with another tested and tasted low/no product to share. We who are on the low sodium journey know that we can meet our sodium restrictions at home. We can cook from scratch. Let’s face it though, we are not the Pioneer Woman. We don’t have enough hours in the day to do everything from scratch all the time. I sure don’t. So I was thrilled to find a great tasting sodium free barbecue sauce.
The Search For Low Sodium Barbecue Sauce
That is why, even though I have a killer low sodium Barbecue Sauce recipe (right here), I also like to be able to just grab a bottle off the shelf, or from the fridge, and pour it on.
I have found several products and I am always searching for more. Products covered must meet the following criteria: I have used them and enjoy the taste, and I would cook with them. If a company ever gives me product to sample, I will disclose that as well. It will be submitted to the above two criteria.
Finding Low Sodium Products Online
When I first started on my Low Sodium Journey, I started searching for products, in my local stores, and online. Hello, Amazon addiction anyone?. I came across HealthyHeartMarket.com (Enter Code: HACKINGSALT10 at checkout for 10% off of your order) and I thought I was in low sodium heaven! They have one of the best collections of low sodium products and ingredients. Including their own products such as low sodium pickles. They also have another great low sodium BBQ sauce, Lum Taylor’s, which I review here.
Mr. Spice Honey BBQ Sauce
I took down the names of the brands and products and began combing my local stores. I found I could talk to some of my local grocers about ordering in product as well. From Healthy Heart Market, I found out about the sauces and marinades from MrSpice.com. They have a bunch of great products that I will get reviews on, but the first one I wanted to do was their Honey Barbecue Sauce. This is a great tasting sodium free barbecue sauce.
The sauce is typical of a “Texas Style” BBQ Sauce, meaning that it is sweeter. Based on a ketchup or tomato base, it has a smoky finish. It has surprisingly good flavor and spice wise. It comes in a 10.5 oz. bottle, which is perfect for using as a dipping sauce. You need at least two bottles if you plan on basting and coating your protein with it.
Be Careful Of Potassium Chloride
The only negative factor, is that they use Potassium Chloride as their salt substitute. If you need to regulate potassium in your diet, you need to speak with your doctor about intake. If you are a heart, liver, kidney or high blood pressure patient, it can render your medications ineffective. You must avoid.
You can find Mr. Spice products at Healthy Heart Market (Enter Code: HACKINGSALT10 at checkout for 10% off of your order) or you can find the products directly on their website, or on Amazon. Let me know what other Low or No Sodium BBQ sauces you have found out there.
You can find the sauce and others here:
I too love Healthy Heart Market – they have such a great selection of zero to low sodium products. It’s fun to try new things too. I will definitely try this BBQ sauce. Thanks for the review. See you on FB!!

As I’ve found in devising my mother’s new low sodium diet for heart failure there’s a catch here – potassium is used as a salt substitute and for heart failure patients that is as bad or worse than sodium . Working on figuring out a low sodium low/no potassium diet
As a heart transplant survivor I also need to avoid potassium chloride (you don’t necessarily have to avoid all potassium, as your heart needs potassium within a range to operate properly). I include these choices for those people who need to go low sodium for reasons other than heart reasons. I also review the Lum Taylor’s low sodium BBQ. I also have a great recipe for a dry rub and bbq sauce.
