There is no escape! This time of year the stores have pallets and aisles of sweets and treats, just to entice us. It is the time for stocking up on Halloween Candy. These can’t be bad for us right? I mean they are all called “Fun Size”! There can’t be salt in them, or is there? Once again, I am making the ultimate sacrifice for the low sodium community to find out the answer to the question: “Can I eat low sodium Halloween Candy?”
On a typical week Americans spend $300 million on candy, but experts say U.S. candy sales should hit $2.5 billion for Halloween 2016. The website Influenster conducted a poll to find out what the favorite Halloween candy is for each state (did they get your state right? Let me know in the comments).
That’s a ton of sugar! But what about the salt? I took the top 25 selling Halloween Candies and have the information for their sodium nutritional information listed, along with the serving size. Most of these will indeed be within our daily sodium limits, unless you plan on eating a full bag of the Regular Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups in one sitting. So let’s find out if there is low sodium Halloween Candy:

I’m kind of sad that my favorite, Twizzlers is the highest! How did yours turn out? Let me know in the comments below!
Yay!!! Candy Corn is on the list, and pretty low! I’m not a big candy eater, but candy corn is fundamental to Halloween!
Junior Mints and Starbursts are some of my favorites. Halloween isn’t Halloween without Candy Corn. I feel safe in knowing I can have a treat ( or two) and stay within my limits. Thank you Christopher!!
Great site, Chris! Just found you via Dak’s Spices on Instagram! As for the Halloween candy… Waahhh! Twizzlers of course have the most. Figures. Thanks for the sacrifice researching on our behalf. 😉
Thanks! I follow your stuff on Facebook. We should team up on stuff sometime!
I have many favorites but Mounds and Almond Joy are close to the top of my list.
