Can I eat low sodium at Burger King? Those of us who are low sodium do like to eat out once in awhile. We also get invited out by our friends and family to eat out. The problem with that, is that in restaurants, we have little to no control over how much sodium is in our foods. Fast food is not typically thought of as a healthy choice for dining. So we are always surprised when we can find low sodium options at a fast food restaurant. Here is the answer to can I eat low sodium at Burger King.
Burger King, similar to their competitor and burger rival McDonald’s (we reviewed their low sodium offers here) has low sodium options if you know what to choose. Remember that in order to qualify for our purposes, we are operating by the USDA recommended 2300 mg of sodium a day. Although the AHA and Mayo Clinic really encourage restriction to 1500 mg of sodium per day. You should always ask your Doctor what he or she recommends for your own daily allowance and stick to that.
With that in mind, we are basing a qualifying meal on 750 mg for a meal. A meal consists of a “main” dish and a “side”. It does not qualify if it is solely a meal found on the kids menu. that is a bit humiliating for adults. Especially if we are ordering with friends, or in a social environment. All of Burger King’s nutritional information can be found here. If a meal can’t be found that qualifies, then the restaurant is relegated to the list of restaurants with high sodium menus to avoid, until they change their menu.
