Great Tasting Low Sodium Hot Sauce
For an every day, all purpose hot sauce I used to be addicted to Frank’s. I would put it on everything! Eggs, Potatoes, wings, soups, stews, burgers, you name it, I could put hot sauce on it. The sad fact of the matter is that Frank’s Original Red Hot Sauce is 190 mg per tsp. Way too high to stay in our low sodium pantry. I had to find a replacement. My quest was to replace my Frank’s. I needed a great tasting low sodium hot sauce that would meet or beat that taste.
Dave’s Gourmet Cool Cayenne Pepper Sauce
I have searched high and low for low sodium hot sauces. In fact I’ve documented that journey with my list of the best low sodium hot sauces here. They run from sweet heat to face melting scorching heat. It is where I first ran into the Dave’s Gourmet brand with their best selling Insanity Sauce. Each sauce was great on it’s own merits, but I was still struggling to find that same vinegary-heat I was missing without Frank’s. It was then I came across the Cool Cayenne Pepper Sauce.
Made with red chiles (cayenne peppers), salt, acetic acid, xanthan gum, garlic, and onions. But the best fact is that it is only 15 mg of sodium per teaspoon! (Insert a chorus of angelic voices singing here!). When I stopped doing the happy dance after I first tried it, I immediately had to see if it could stand up to the ultimate test. How would it stand up in my low sodium Buffalo Wing recipe. It rocked! Which also meant it would work for my low sodium buffalo chicken sliders.
I was so stoked to find a new go to hot sauce. It is found mostly online. and I recommend buying them in 2-packs or by the case in order to get a deal. I have contacted the Dave’s Gourmet People about potentially working on a discount for the low sodium community but we haven’t confirmed any details. I will update once I do. Are you a Saucehead? What are your favorite sauces? Let me know in the comments below!

My son is on heart transplant list and I do most of his cooking. I am very happy that you have found a hot sauce that is low sodium. It will make it easier for me. Thank you.
You are very welcome!
