This Blog and community was created and nurtured by my husband Christopher Lower.
I say “Hello and how have you been?” to long time friends that are living the low/no so life and I say “Welcome!” to those that have just found us.
As many of you know Chris successfully received his second heart transplant last December. What we didn’t count on was an infection that set into his immunity suppressed system that ultimately took his life.
As wife, business partner and mother to our three amazing kids, I’ve needed some time before I was ready to bring the passion, information, recipes and tips back to the community he built. Chris was a one of a kind storyteller so I hope you continue to dig through old posts for recipes as well as the joy of his optimistic spirit.
One of our favorite accomplishments of Hacking Salt happened a few years ago when we were able to assemble a full Thanksgiving dinner using all low/no sodium recipes that we successfully served to our family. No one missed the added salt. https://www.hackingsalt.com/complete-low-sodium-thanksgiving-guide/
I want to reshare this post for those of you that are still getting your menu in place in hopes that you can sit back and relax on this holiday of thankfulness (and amazing food) in the knowledge that you’ll be serving delicious and proven dishes that will keep your heart healthy.
Cheers!
Mary
I wondered why I no longer got the informative posts. I am sad for you and really appreciate your go forward spirit. You have had a hard time and recovery is a blessing.
Thank you and again…..my condolences. Bev Dillard
Thank you Bev. I’ve had plans to start his blog up for a while but his work and passion for creating a full Thanksgiving feast was a milestone I could not let pass without sharing to our community!
How wonderful to see the return of “H.S.”! I will look forward to every new post.
Your husband’s energy and humor jumped out in his every sentence. I have missed “hearing” from him and I have missed his take on the low-so life.
Thank you for the re-launch, and best of luck from a long-time reader.
Thanks Cynthia! He leaves behind his passion for sharing tips to hack salt…I will do my best! ML
I’m sure it’s been so difficult. I am struggling on this low/no salt journey. I appreciate you’re email so much! I wish you peace and blessings as you go through this holiday season. Sending hugs and prayers! Thank you, Ambra Matthews
Thanks Ambra – it’s always easier when we’re in this journey together!
Hello, I’ve went to you site several times. I have been on a low-salt diet for about a year now and am always looking for new products and recipes.
One thing I tried was healthy heart markets pickle trio. The bread and butter pickle were good but the dill pickles aren’t dill. They taste like canned cucumbers with very little dill. I wrote a review and they didn’t post it! I guess only good reviews are posted!
Also, shipping was ridiculously high.
Please post so other people don’t disappointed like me.
Thanks
Bob From Tn
Thank you for your commitment to continue your husband’s passion on “Hacking Salt.” I found the site just before his death
I am doing well on the low sodium/no salt diet. My doctor says I am not in “failure” right now, but I am still rather strict for myself.
Having Salt is a big help. Thanks again.
Great to hear Lora! What type of posts will help you most in the future? ML
Hello beautiful lady, so good to hear from you after all this time. You have lost a wonderful and generous man. He not only shared recipes, he shared love and happiness thru his website. I didn’t know him long but quickly came too recognize his generous sharing way thru this media. My main regret is that I had not found him sooner as many others did. Good bless you this holiday season with warm thoughts and loving memories of your husband, Chris.
Thanks for the kind words Jean!
Thank you, from the bottom of my (repaired) heart. Since my own triple bypass and valve job, Hacking Salt has played an important part in keeping my own spirits up. We can still have fun and enjoy eating. I am grateful to you for keeping this going.
Thanks for the note Marvin! Please let us know what you want to read in future posts.
Thank you so much for starting up the site again! I have missed it!
Thanks for the note Linda — I’m looking forward to sharing new loso adventures in the coming year! –Mary
Welcome back Mary. We missed you! I continue to pull up the blog when I’m stuck in a place with others and have to choose food items at large chain restaurants. Refreshing them would be great!
Also, keep reminding us of your recipes that are in the cookbook and blog for everyday needs…like spice combos or sloppy joes, etc…
I just posted a couple questions to the Facebook page, how can we put some pressure on large food makers to lower the salt contents in their foods? And could we get grocery store chains to put some of the little signs on the foods that are Low So? Like they did for gluten free…
Great question Karyn – I’ve heard bit and pieces of new legislation that is in the works or coming…I’m going to do some research on this topic and get back to you both here and on the Facebook channels. –Mary
Welcome Back Mary! You were missed! I have often gone to the blog website often when I’m with a group and have to stop at a large chain restaurant. It is really nice to have a confirmation of what to order off the menus. I’ve been LOSO for over a year, and Christopher’s cookbook came out just as I was finding out about my heart issue, and it has been a real gift. ~ It would be nice to have the restaurant menu choices updated ~ I love the Facebook posts with reminders of the great recipes for food and spice mixes, etc…
Good to have you back!
Thanks for the warm welcome Karyn – I’m getting geared up for a great 2019! Thrilled to hear the cookbook has been useful for you – Chris has left quite the legacy. -Mary
I am so thankful to see this post! I was diagnosed with Menieres a year and a half ago, and found Hacking Salt and hope in August or September. My sister and I cooked a full Thanksgiving meal using Chris’ recipes, and we’re doing it again this year. I wish you and your sweet family the very best, and God bless you all.
Thanks for your support and testimonial Georgenne! Hope you have a happy and healthy New Year!
